Veterans and Homelessness: Building Community Supports
Historically, homelessness increases surrounding armed conflicts, but it is in more recent history that we have seen a rise in veteran homelessness. It is estimated that 1 in 150 veterans will experience homelessness over the course of a year. In this course, you will learn about definitions and statistics related to homelessness among veterans; the needs of veterans from different conflicts; the unique needs of female veterans; challenges, including trauma and homelessness, that veterans often face after returning home from deployment; the needs of families of service members and veterans; the service delivery system for veterans; barriers to accessing care; and strategies for serving those who have served. Case studies featuring veterans from different conflicts complement the information provided.
